Quake fear: KSU calls for regular mock drills

SHILLONG: Expressing concern over public safety following incidences of tremors hitting the city of late, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) urged the State Government to conduct mock drills in schools, colleges and even offices as a precautionary measure.
A delegation of the KSU submitted a memorandum to PW Ingty, Principal Secretary in charge of Disaster Management, in this regard on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Donald V Thabah, KSU’s education cell chairman, said, “The State Government should conduct mock drills for better. People become by-standers when a mock drill is conducted in public places. It is high time that a different approach is adopted for creating awareness among the masses.” Expressing concern over the non-existence of emergency exits even at the Secretariat and other Government offices as well as some schools, the KSU leader said that mock drills are the need of the hour.
