SHILLONG: Congress candidate for Tura by-poll slated for May 16 Dikkanchi D Shira may land up in trouble for her comments that BJP was against the minorities including Christians in the state made at an election rally.
In one of the campaigns at Dadenggre on May 2, Shira had alleged, “NPP and the BJP have an agreement for five years in which they would leave Tura for the NPP. But the NPP would be working on the BJP agenda. The BJP cannot protect minorities like Christians and Muslims”.  Shira also added that it was only the Congress who stood for minorities.
Reacting to this, in a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, the State BJP indicated that since the statement violates model code of conduct and tantamount   to hate speech, the party will follow up the matter.
Basu Chakraborty, spokesperson of  the state BJP also said that the party has taken  exception to the statement of the Congress candidate.
“The statement not only violated the model code of conduct, but tantamount to hate speech which attract criminal liability . The party will pursue the matter and take necessary action shortly”, Chakraborty added.
KHNAM boost for Conrad: Meanwhile, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has decided to extend their support to NPP candidate for Tura by-poll Conrad Sangma.
This was informed in a statement issued by the general secretary of the party Batkupar Wahlang here on Wednesday.
