SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia National Union (KJNU) on Friday made a call for a separate Khasi-Jaintia State.
“The Nagas have Nagaland, Assamese have Assam and Mizos have Mizoram. Since the Garos have demanded Greater Garoland, we reiterate our demand for a separate state,” KJNU president Niman Shadap said.
“Our demand will not depend on guns and violence but we are ready to sacrifice our lives if the State government remains indifferent to our demands,” he stated.
He added that his organization will take up the matter with the Union government.
