NONGSTOIN: The Sordar of Mawmitur village in West Khasi Hills has threatened to lodge a complaint against the Sordar of Khynrin village after the latter denied access to various scheme provided by the government to residents of Mawmitur village.
Mawmitur, consisting of 30 households, was carved out of Khynrin village in September, 2014 after necessary permission from the Syiem of Hima Rambrai.
An agreement was signed between Sordar of Khynrin, A. Pariong, and Sordar of Mawmitur, Philip Sangriang, soon after Mawmitur village came into existence.
Both the traditional heads agreed that Mawmitur will not stake claim to ownership of the land from Khynrin village and all development schemes provided by the government like ICDS and PDS schemes will be share by the two villages until the time Mawmitur village was accorded due recognition by the State government.
However, some months later, residents of Mawmitur including the Sordar, alleged highhandedness on the part of the Sordar of Khynrin, claiming that the 30 families of Mawmitur village were being denied access to ration card under the National Food Security Act, 2013.
Philip Sangriang told The Shillong Times that the Sordar of Khynrin village had violated the agreement and failed to respect the terms and conditions set in the agreement signed by the two Dorbars.
It is alleged further that children in Mawmitur village are being denied rice and other nutrition items from the ICDS through the Anganwadi centre.
“For almost one year our children have not received anything from the Anganwadi centre provided by the ICDS Nongstoin,” Sangriang said, adding that the Sordar of Khynrin had terminated the service of Anganwadi worker Plinsi Wanniang of Mawmitur village without        any reason and appointed his daughter Royalsi Lyngdoh to the said post.
Sangriang further stated that whenever the villagers ask for ration cards from the Sordar of Khynrin, he charges Rs.100 per card from the villagers. The corrupt practice was stopped only after they threatened to complain to the deputy commissioner of West Khasi Hills.
Sangriang went on to say that ICDS officers recently called both the Sordar for a dialogue and directed the Anganwadi worker to conduct a survey at Mawmitur village, but the Sordar of Khynrin did not permit the same.
