Ex-gratia relief to victims of Tawang police firing

Tawang: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul here on Wednesday handed over ex-gratia relief of Rs 18 lakh to next of the kin of May 2 firing incident and promised them government jobs.The firing had left two people dead, six with major injury and another five received with minor injury. Saddened over the loss, the family of the deceased pleaded: “Give us justice”, as they met the CM today. The Chief Minister assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty. He informed that two magisterial enquiries are currently ongoing, one at the state level by Commissioner Hage Khoda and another at the local level by Jang ADC Dilip Kumar Chutia.
“Once the reports are tabled, swift action will be taken,” assured the Chief Minister to a gathering attended by the victim’s families,the injured and the members of the peace committee constituted recently by the district administration. He also handed over Rs 6 lakh for those with major injuries and Rs 1 lakh with minor injuries. Reportedly, four of the injured victims are being treated at different hospitals in Guwahati and one at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong. The CM said he would be visiting the patients soon.
“Although no amount of relief can compensate the loss, but we must ensure that no such tragic incidents occur in the future,” he said. Urging the people that “it’s time to move ahead” the Chief Minister ordered lifting of section 144 CrPC from the town to return to normalcy. (UNI)
