SHILLONG: The chief secretary level border talks between Meghalaya and Assam, pending for more than three years, will be held after the formation of a new government in the neighbouring state after the declaration of election results on May 19.
The last chief secretary level meeting was held during the tenure of W.M.S. Pariat
Chief Secretary K.S. Kropha said the next chief secretary level meeting will be held only after the Assam election results.
Documents submitted by the State to Assam will be followed up, he said.
The State government had in 2012 submitted documents and maps related to the 12 areas of differences to the Assam government to substantiate the former’s claim over these areas.
The 12 areas are Upper Tarabari, Gizang Reserve Forest, Hahim,Langpih, Borduar, Boklapara, Nongwah-Matamur, Khanapara-Pillangkata, Deshdemoreah, Block I and Block II, Khanduli-Psiar and Ratacherra.
Later, the Assam government also sought further details after the names of the villages submitted by the State government did not tally with those of Assam villages.
Subsequently, the State government submitted the required information to the Assam government.
Though there were intermittent minor border skirmishes, only lower official level talks were held to sort out the matter and the chief secretary level talks have been pending.
