NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) West Khasi Hills Unit on Sunday accused the Assam Government of restarting construction activities along the disputed border area in Langpih.
The accusation came after a team of the FKJGP’s WKH unit led by its president Palwan Syiem inspected the area.
Addressing media persons on the issue here on Sunday Syiem said that the inspection was carried out after local villagers got suspicious over the construction of a house near Langpih market.
Even though it was claimed that the house belonged to one Slinda Wahlang Singh and her husband Kutu Munu from Manipur, both residents of Assam now, the Federation said that, following inputs from sources it has learnt that the structure belonged to the Forest department of Assam.
Syiem also pointed out that Slinda Wahlang Singh had sold her house at Langpih to (L) Hoping Stone Lyngdoh few years back. The house was then donated to the Hima Raidmynsaw by late Lyngdoh.
“But a year later the same person (Slinda Wahlang) resold the house to the Assam Government,” Syiem said.
The FKJGP also urged the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner as well as the Sirdar of Hima Raidmynsaw to make a proper enquiry about the ongoing construction since the people of the area didn’t believe that Slinda Wahlang was the owner of the house.
