KHADC chief inspects oldest market in WKH district

NONGSTOIN: KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) P.N. Syiem on Monday carried out an inspection at Markasa market.
The CEM was accompanied by Hadrian Lyngdoh, EM in charge Land & Market, Nongstoin MDC L.G. Nongsiej, Mawshynrut MDC Morning Mawsor and acting chief of Hima Myriaw Aiborlangsing Syiem.
Markasa market which is one of the oldest markets in West Khasi Hills lacks development.
The market committee had approach the CEM to provide an assistance to develop the market.
The CEM said Markasa market is recognized by the council since the KHADC receives a small share from the revenue of the market. He assured the committee and also the people of Markasa of providing assistance for the construction of footpath in and around Markasa market and also a parking lot.
Sources stated that Markasa market had existed since the days of the barter system. Today the market is famous for the local variety of poultry on offer.
