SHILLONG: A cowherd has been running from pillar to post for financial assistance without any success after he suffered serious injuries in a lightning strike that has rendered him invalid and his family in dire straits.
Shemphang Lamurong of Chieruphi village in East Jaintia Hills was struck by lightning on April 15. The lightining strike also killed 19 of his cattle, his only means of income.
Being the sole breadwinner for his family consisting of eight children, he approached the East Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner as well as the BDO of the local C&RD Block concerned for help and immediate assistance but the response has so far been lukewarm. Meanwhile, Rev. P.B.M. Basaiawmoit has approached the chief minister appealing to provide immediate relief and succour to Shemphang Lamurong and his family.
