SHILLONG: In an incident that revealed divided opinions within the teachers’ association, the Federation of All Meghalaya Ad hoc Secondary School Teachers’ Association (FAMASTA) clarified on Tuesday that it stood by Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya’s (JACATAM) demand for provincialisation of teachers’ services and had not made any request for salary enhancement.
Addressing a press conference here, some FAMASTA representatives rejected a news report which stated that the Federation will hold a meeting with the Chief Minister to discuss salary enhancement.
It may be reminded that some members of Federation of All Meghalaya Ad hoc Secondary School Teachers’ Association (FAMASTA) demanded an enhancement of salary of primary to higher secondary level teachers of all ad hoc grant in aid schools of the State.
The FAMASTA had also informed that they had secured a June 1 appointment with the Chief Minister on the matter.
JACATAM (an umbrella body of all teachers’ association) general secretary, Kenneth Shadap said that the teachers’ association has unanimously decided to stand by its demand for provincialisation and did not consider any demand for salary enhancement.
Shadap questioned the motive behind the discussion and said, “We maintain that the stand of JACATAM remains the same.”
