Women accuse headman of usurping land

SHILLONG: Two women have accused a village headman of attempting to forcibly take possession of their land in West Jaintia Hills.
The two women – Aniyan Phawa and Adla Shadap – have lodged a complaint that one Lovingson Laloo, headman of Mowkaiaw village and others attempted to take possession of their land at Mynklein under Raliang Elaka in West Jaintia Hills.
They complained that on May 12 around 8 PM, they were summoned by the village Dorbar and forced to sign a transfer deed and threatened with dire consequences. However, after one villager intervened, a week’s time was given to them to ponder over the issue.
