SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has been absent from the state capital since April 19, the day Election Commission announced the by- poll date for Tura Lok Sabha seat.
He spent most of his time in the last one month in Garo Hills campaigning for his wife and the Congress candidate Dikkanchi Shira.
Following the debacle of the party candidate in the poll, the Chief Minister rushed to Delhi to meet the AICC leader Rahul Gandhi to apprise him the election result.
It was not only the Chief Minister who was busy in campaigns, but also the entire cabinet at different intervals. Not only the Chief Minister, several ministers were also absent from the Secretariat during the period thereby affecting the overall administration. However, when contacted, a senior government official claimed that the absence of the Chief Minister has not affected the functioning of the administration.
“If needed, in this age of fastest means of communication, documents and files can be sent to anyone who is away from the state capital”, the official added.
The Chief Minister, who is camping in Delhi, may return to Shillong on Tuesday.
