March to observe World Sight Day organised

 SHILLONG: As a mark to observe the World Sight Day, the Bansara Eye Care Centre in collaboration with Meghalaya Blindness Control Society, Government of Meghalaya organised a ‘walk for sight’ which started from IGP Point to Laitumkhrah here on Wednesday.

The walk was hosted with a purpose to create an awareness among the people on the importance of eye health and that timely checkups of the eyes can save vision.

The march which was flagged off by Adviser Ophthalmology Government of Meghalaya Dr B Khongsit was attended by students from the Optometry Department of Bansara Institute of Ophthalmic Sciences, students of MLCU from the BSW and Allied Health Department.

Later, a seminar was conducted at the conference hall of Bansara Eye Care Centre where Bansara’s Consultant Optometrist Anton Decruse Wanbah educated the SSA and NSS teachers from various colleges on the different aspects of eye care especially when it comes to detecting early eye problems in school going children and timely referral.

A presentation on eye donation was also given by T Ginsuankhup who is an MS Optometry student at Bansara. The seminar was followed by an active question and answer round.

Bansara Eye Care Centre will conduct free eye screening camps on Friday at all their vision centres across the state namely Nongstoin, Jowai, Mawkhar, Police Bazaar, Laitumkhrah Main Road and Mawkyrwat.
