SHILLONG: The Thma u Rangli Juki (TUR) has urged the public to look at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Acche Din record before being part of the public reception being planned for him in Shillong on May 27.
In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, TUR said that people should also be wary of the host, which is Congress led MUA-II government, which is as inept and anti people as that of Modi.
“Both these governments need to be challenged and questioned as both represent regimes that are unwilling to act on corruption as is seen by their non implementation of the Lokayukta and Lokpal and weakening of pro people legislations such as the RTI and MNREGS.
“Both have failed to deliver with regards to workers’ rights and assuring livelihood for all. Education and healthcare have been privatised and made inaccessible for the common people by both these regimes,” the TUR said.
“Both have policies to protect and promote interests of the rich. From Niyamgiri, Bastar to Domiasiat, both seek to deny indigenous people of their land, resources and their traditional systems of self-governance,” the statement said.
The TUR also accused the Modi government of trying to further marginalize and stifle not only the poor and those on the margins but the tribals, Christians, Muslims, Dalits, students, women and persons who express their opinions and dissent.
