SHILLONG: The Shillong MP Vincent Pala, who has been entrusted with the task of playing the role of a mediator to sort out the reported differences within CLP by the High Command,  has made it clear that he is not in the race for the post of chief minister.
“I am not an MLA, my voters have sent me to Lok Sabha to work for the state from there”, Pala said on Wednesday when asked if he is interested to take over the reins of the State.
The Congress MP also denied that he was planning to join BJP and termed it as rumours.
Majority of Congress legislators have revolted against Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for the poor performance of the party in the Tura by poll which compelled the MPCC president DD Lapang to take up the matter with the Congress High Command.
To a question on the demand for a change of leadership, Pala said that he was unaware of  the ground reality as he was out of the country for several days.
“Within two-three days, I will be able to assess the situation”, Pala, who will be arriving here on Thursday, said.
Pala, however, admitted that he attended the meeting called by AICC leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi along with the MPCC president DD Lapang and the AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya V Narayanasamy in Delhi to discuss the grievances of the legislators.
He also said that there will not be any official meeting with the legislators in Shillong and added that incase the legislators wanted to meet him, they are welcome.
