SHILLONG: In the context of spurt in natural calamities in Meghalaya, a new Doppler Weather Radar set up at Cherrapunjee to provide accurate weather forecast, was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
The Weather Radar System will enable better weather forecasts, especially for the Northeastern region facing unpredictable weather conditions.
The Prime Minister said this should help in minimizing the threat posed by extreme weather conditions.
“We all know Cherrapunjee for being the place that receives the highest rainfall in the world. Today, another feather has been added to its cap. The Doppler Weather Radar at Cherrapunjee has been dedicated to the nation. I congratulate the Indian Space Research Organization, Bharat Electronics Ltd, and the Indian Meteorological Department for setting up this Radar in Cherrapunjee,” the Prime Minister told the public gathering at Polo Grounds.
