Narayanasamy selected for Puducherry CM’s post
SHILLONG: The pace of the dissidents to effect a change of leadership has slowed down following the selection of AICC General Secretary in charge Meghalaya V Narayanasamy as the new Chief Minister of Puducherry.
The meeting of the dissident legislators with Lapang scheduled to be held at his official residence at 7 pm on Saturday was postponed after the news about Narayanasamy’s new assignment reached here.
This was informed by former Chief Minister S C Marak after meeting Lapang at the latter’s residence on Saturday evening.
He also said that now they will have to wait for the appointment of a new AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya to follow up the change of leadership issue with Delhi.
No new date has been fixed for the meeting of the dissidents with Lapang, who has been projected as the next leader.
Marak admitted that some Congress legislators have some grievances which need to be sorted out.
To a question on the dissidents projecting Lapang as the new leader, Marak said that consultations would continue.
Asked whether he is in the race for the post of Chief Minister, Marak said, “I want to continue as an MLA”.
Though Lapang is projected as the new leader, there are varied suggestions emerging from the Congress circles that a young face like Preston Tynsong or a senior person acceptable to all like SC Marak can be chosen as alternate to Lapang.
The AICC wanted a plan of action from the dissidents before they meet the High Command in Delhi. In the recent meeting in Delhi with Lapang and Shillong MP Vincent Pala, the ACICC leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress leader Narayanasamy wanted all the Congress legislators to come to Delhi to air their views and grievances against Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
Pala who is currently camping in Shillong was entrusted to speak to all legislators in Shillong and fix up a meeting so that the Congress legislators can meet the AICC leaders.
