SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Council (HANC) has lent its support to the highway projects of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) which are supervised by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL)
In a statement issued to the press, general secretary of the council, A.Wahlang said that the state is in dire need of such projects.
“We have learnt from the Ministry that over eight projects which are to be initiated have been delayed to non issuance of NOC by the KHADC,” Wahlang said.
Going into the details of the project Wahlang informed that the projects under the jurisdiction of the KHADC include two-laning of the western by-pass, Shillong, upgradation of Nongstoin- Rambrai – Kyrshai road up to Meghalaya-Assam Border, upgradation of two-lanes state road from Mawshynrut to Athiabari (Assam border) etc.”
“The upgradation of the stretch from Nongstoin-Domiasiat-Mawthabah via Wahkaji road, which is the bone of contention for some pressure groups, also features in the list,” Wahlang observed.
Meanwhile projects under the jurisdiction of the GHADC include Assam/Meghalaya border road to Dalu via Baghmara, Tura bypass, Ampati-Zigzag-Mahendraganj road etc.
Wahlang said that after analyzing the views of the people residing in the villages, the organization has decided to support the projects and has approached the KHADC to issue NOC to the company to start the Nongstoin – Wahkaji – Mawthabah road project.
The HANC alleged that after meeting the authorities concerned they were informed that the GHADC issued an NOC within two weeks and questioned the delay on the part of the KHADC to issue the same.
