SHILLONG: Congestion in the overcrowded Tura town is set to be reduced to a large extent with the State’s first interstate bus terminus (ISBT) finally complete on the outskirts of Tura town.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Tuesday said the infrastructure in the ISBT has come about beautifully and the project is complete.
According to Bakshi, details like who will maintain the ISBT and under what pattern have to be worked out.
“We will also have to talk with different bus operators including the long distance operators to run their buses from the ISBT and not from Tura town,” he said.
He said the government would discuss about feeder services since the ISBT was located away from Tura and vehicles would be required to ferry passengers to and from the ISBT.
In addition, some small shops would also come up at the ISBT to cater to the passengers.
The Central government had sanctioned Rs.45 crores for the project which covered 90 per cent of the total cost, while the NBCC bore the remaining 10 per cent.
The ISBT would accommodate 50 buses plying to and from all corners of the State to Tura.
