SHILLONG:  With the resentment among a section of Congress legislators still continuing, the beleaguered Chief Minister Mukul Sangma may go for a Cabinet reshuffle after getting nod from the AICC.
Though a question was asked in this regard by media on Thursday regarding reshuffle, the Chief Minister only said that the media would come to know first “if there is such a move”.
However, in a curious move, almost all the Cabinets Ministers who clandestinely wanted a change of leadership, has now gone back to the Chief  Minister and supported him fearing that they may lose their positions if there is a cabinet reshuffle.
Whenever there was any demand for change of leadership in the past, the issue of reshuffle used to crop up. But it never materialised.
There has been no Cabinet reshuffle of the Congress-led MUA-II since it assumed power after 2013 Assembly polls.
However, the pressure is now mounting on the Chief Minister to accommodate at least a few dissidents and to replace a few ministers aimed at projecting a better image of the Cabinet ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls.
Sources said that though in the past, the AICC did not want a cabinet reshuffle, the situation has now changed and the High Command may direct the Chief Minister to effect the much-awaited cabinet reshuffle
Though the Chief Minister had already communicated to the High Command that he could quell the initial disgruntlement among the Congress legislators, the MPCC president DD Lapang maintains that the leadership is still an issue.
In this context, the High Command considers that a reshuffle may help to have a smooth running of the government till the party faces the next Assembly polls in 2018.
