Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday asked the North East Frontier Railway to expeditiously complete the double-tracking work to ensure smooth movement of train in the state.
A three-member team of NF Railway, led by its General Manager H K Jaggi, called on the Chief Minister and discussed with him several issues, including double-tracking and construction of railway terminal at Aghthori near Amingaon.
Sonowal enquired into the progress of double-tracking work on Guwahati-Lumding section and directed them to ensure its early completion, an official release said here. Jaggi apprised the Chief Minister that survey work of double tracking between Lumding-Dibrugarh section had already been undertaken and the project would be carried out on fast-track basis.
Regarding staff recruitment to Grade III and IV categories, the Chief Minister asked the general manager to adhere to Centre’s decision of ‘no-interview norm’. Jaggi also informed Sonowal that several plans were on the anvil to decongest Guwahati Railway Station by upgrading railway infrastructure across the peripheral areas of the city, the release said.
