VRS for 145 MCCL staff

SHILLONG: The State government would shell out Rs.22.3 crores to facilitate voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for as many as 145 employees of the sick government owned Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited, with the State Cabinet giving its approval to the same on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the MCCL has been bleeding, and reminded that the government had made a commitment to bail out the MCCL from the financial mess it was reeling under.     According to the chief minister, the State government has already released certain amount of funds for the VRS and the pending amount would be released in due course of time. The MCCL has 455 employees.
It may be recalled that the State government had already sanctioned Rs.80 crores to MCCL as financial assistance.
