NONGSTOIN: In an attempt to spread awareness on the need to safeguard the environment, the Pyndengrei Sports & Cultural Club launched a social campaign on Tuesday by painting environmental related graffiti in and around Nongstoin town.
On the occasion, A.Khongwir, SDO (PHE) Nongstoin formally launched the mass street wall painting which was funded by the Swacch Bharat Mission, West Khasi Hills.
The student community of Nongstoin painted the walls of PHE, IB, PWD and the walls along the road side of Nongstoin market with graffiti depicting the burning issue of global warming and rampant felling of trees among others.
More than 30 students from different schools of Nongstoin spent over six hours to paint a 36 square feet stretch of wall with graffiti depicting the effects of human indifference towards the earth.
The young students were assisted and supervised by the members of the Pyndengrei Sports & Cultural Club.
The brilliant art work of the participants impressed many passers-by who appreciated the hard work and the vision of the artists.
One of the best images painted by Mix Samakha, a renowned artist of Nongstoin depicted felling of trees caused by humans who want to be rich without bothering about the future generations.
The campaign also saw the work of Angela, an artist from Manipur who painted an eye which depicted that a human being should witness the environmental degradation so that it will lead to a realization that it is not too late to start a new chapter for a better future for the coming generations.
