SHILLONG: The Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills Police on Wednesday apprehended two drug peddlers in the city.
East Khasi Hills SP, M Kharkrang said that on receiving information about drug peddling at Nongshilliang, the area was put under ANTF surveillance.
Meanwhile, one of the peddlers, Rechel Ralte (32), of Nongrim Hills was apprehended and suspected heroine was recovered from her possession.
Following the arrest, she led police to the house of the supplier, John Baglary (33) at Nongshilliang Block-II, Nongthymmai. During search of the house, in the presence of elders of the locality, over 13 grams of heroin was recovered. Other materials like cash Rs 15012, which was the proceeds from sale of drugs, and a scooty (ML 05-N-7249), used for transportation of the banned substance, were also seized by the police.
“The catch was the outcome of a close cooperation of the responsible people of the locality and police,” Kharkrang said.
Earlier in the year the police had said that at least 60 per cent of the theft cases and burglary reported from parts of city are related to the craving of the criminals including juveniles to get money for purchasing drugs.
