TURA: The A’chik Youth Council (AYC), has urged the Health and Family Welfare Department to reconsider the handing over of three PHCs in South West Garo Hills to Karuna Trust, an NGO. It was earlier proposed that the Rangsakona PHC, Betasing PHC and Belbari PHC would be handed by the government to be run by the NGO.
In its letter to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, A L Hek, a copy of which was also send to the Chief Minister, the AYC recalled the protest made by the people concerned in April this year, against the proposal and strongly demanded that the PHCs should continue to remain and function under the Government.
“We urged the government to respect the sentiments of the general public and to scrap the proposal for the general good of the region,” the AYC said.
Meanwhile, during their meeting with Health and Family Welfare Minister, the Council also apprised him about various problems being faced by the people at the Tura Civil Hospital.
Among other issues it brought to the Minister’s notice was the non-functional X-ray machine and Sonography equipment compelling the patients to turn to private hospitals.
Tura Civil Hospital belongs to the Government and all health care facilities should be made available free of cost,” the NGO added said.
The minister is said to have assured them that he would look into both the issues at the earliest.
