SHILLONG: The Forest department of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has stated that there is no illegal collection from any truck carrying timbers.
“As per report from the beat officer of Umiam Beat House there is no illegal collection as reported by W. Pakma, Kyngdong Tuber and D. Umdor of Tyrsad village. The timbers that pass through the beat office is always accompanied with valid transit pass, so it is totally baseless allegation that our staff was involved in any unfair means,” the KHADC said.
The KHADC also said that there is no beat office set up anywhere in and around Mawlasnai area and the allegations that the KHADC forests officials are part of the racket with JHADC forest staff and police personnel from Mawlasnai police station to allow illegal transportation of timber is baseless.
“The licensed sawmill located at the Umiam Industrial Estate has to follow strict and stringent order imposed by the High Power Committee in setting up licensed saw mill to take only the timber which have valid documents,” he stated.
