SHILLONG: Following reports that Bangladesh government has issued eviction notice to over 700 indigenous Khasi families, who have been residing in the neighbouring country for the past 75 years, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday asked the Chief Secretary K.S. Kropha to take up the matter with the Central government.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, the chief minister said the overall mandate of looking into the matter is with the Centre.
He also said it is important for both the countries to engage in bilateral discussions with each other on the issue.
Earlier, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) had sought immediate intervention of the NDA led Union government as well as the Congress led State government into matter.
