SHILLONG: Meghalaya State Commission for Women has urged the State Police to speed up action to arrest SN Roy, the main culprit in the gang rape of a minor girl in the city last month.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Meghalaya State Commission for Women chairman SK Marak said, “It is intolerable on the part of the public to such heinous crime committed by the keepers of the law.”

The State Police were awaiting a reply from Bihar Police in this regard as police official hailing from Bihar is believed to have fled to his home state fearing arrest .

The MSCW has already asked the State Director General of Police (DGP) to take steps to arrest the culprit immediately. Roy along with his accomplices had allegedly raped a class VIII girl at a hotel here in March last. He was already suspended from service and a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him.
