Guv calls for better road connectivity in North East

SHILLONG: Governor V Shanmuganathan on Saturday called for better road connectivity in the North East, a landlocked region which suffers from various connectivity issues.
Addressing a gathering after the inauguration of a CC road at Professors’ Colony, Kharmalki on Saturday, Shanmuganathan said that road connectivity is an important aspect and should be given due attention.
The Governor added that the headquarters of all Northeastern states must be effectively linked in order to boost the tourism potential of the State.
Meanwhile, local MLA and Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who was also present on the occasion, thanked the residents of the locality for donating land required for the road project.
The project was completed in 15 months at an estimated cost of Rs 84 lakh.
The construction was jointly undertaken by PWD and Urban Affairs departments.
Neil Antonio War, local MDC, officials and functionaries of various government departments, members of the Community Welfare Voluntary Group, Kharmalki, village elders and residents were also present on the occasion.
