SHILLONG:  Fr. Peter Schiavon (SDB), ex-headmaster of John Bosco School, Sohra passed away on June 19 at Pynthorumkhrah.
Fr. Schiavon was born on July 1, 1926 near Paduva in Italy. He became a Salesian on June 11, 1949 and was ordained priest on December 7, 1959. Fr. Schiavon, a great lover of people, a zealous missionary worked for years at Sohra and Mawlai. He became the first Parish Priest of Pynthorumkhrah when the Parish was opened in 1997.
The Holy Mass will be celebrated at Pynthor Parish Church on Monday (June 20) at 7.00am and 6.30pm respectively and on Tuesday (June 21) at 7.00am.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1.30pm on Tuesday at St. Peter and Paul Church at Pynthorumkhrah, presided over by Dominic Jala, Archbishop of Shillong. It will be followed by the funeral cortege to the Catholic Cemetery, Laitumkhrah.
Meanwhile Sohra MLA, Titosstarwell Chyne, ex-student of John Bosco School, Sohra condoled the death of Fr. Schiavon. In a condolence message, Chyne recalled the contribution of late Fr. Schiavon to Sohra for nearly 30 years.
“He was my headmaster from 1976-1984 and fond recollections are only adding to my deepest sense of loss,” Chyne said.
