SHILLONG: The HYC on Monday slammed the State Government for spending over Rs 2 crore on Bollywood movie Rock On 2 while neglecting the students’ plight.
HYC organizing secretary, Nickson Dohling said that at a time when the students are struggling due to want of scholarship money, the government was spending on less important things.
Addressing reporters after meeting Education Minister, RC Laloo, Dohling said, “A lot of students are facing hardships due to the delay in disbursement of scholarships. While the scholarships for the year 2015-16 have been released, that for 2014-15 is yet to be made available.” The minister assured the delegation to take up the issue with the concerned authorities in Delhi.
On the other hand, HYC education secretary, Roykupar Synrem expressed concern over the fact that students numbering over hundreds from West Jaintia Hills were denied admission to class XI at Kiang Nangbah Government College.
Meanwhile, the JSU in a statement urged the College principal to enroll the students who have applied for admissions.
