Corrupt DFO’s Kaziranga tenure being probed

Guwahati: Sleuths of anti-corruption and vigilance wing of Assam Police today visited Kaziranga to gather information on the activities of corruption accused DFO Mahat Chandra Talukdar, during his tenure at the Kaziranga National Park. Reports from Kaziranga said the personnel were retrieving records of 1989-93, during which Talukdar was posted in the park. As many as 144 rhinos were poached in the park during his tenure and all angles, including his possible involvement with poachers, are being looked into.  His performance and records are being verified. Talukdar, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhemaji, was arrested recently while accepting bribe. Following his arrest, crores of unaccounted money, jewellery and property have been recovered from him. (Agencies)
