Bangalore-based firm shows interest in Shangpung turmeric

SHILLONG: The Bangalore based company Sami Sabinsa Group is keen to outsource turmeric produced in Shangpung area in West Jaintia Hills for its high curcumin content which helps in preventing cancer.
Sami Sabinsa Group chairman, Muhammed Majeed met over 100 farmers at Shangpung on Wednesday and expressed his desire to enter into “contract farming arrangements” with them.
The company would execute agreements with prospective farmers with 100 per cent buy back on cash against delivery basis.The high curcumin content of the Lakadong variety of the turmeric has attracted the group which is producing curcumin tablets known to have anti-cancer properties.
