Non issuance of NOC by KHADC

SHILLONG: Peeved by the delay in issuance of NOC to various road projects by the KHADC, the Trai Khyndew, Warsan Lyngdoh Area has threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike at the Council premises.
In a statement to the press, the chairman of the organization, SO Myrthong said that heavy losses incurred by the affected villages compelled the association to mull taking the drastic step.
Trai Khyndew, Warsan Lyngdoh Area took exception to the delay in issuing of NOC for the two-lane Nongstoin -Wahkaji -Mawthabah and Wahkaji -Phlangdiloin – Ranikor road projects among others.
“Pregnant women die on the way due to the deplorable road condition, farmers’ agricultural produce perish due to lack of transport facilities; people in Warsan Lyngdoh and its adjoining areas mainly depend on agriculture and are living in poverty due to lack of road connectivity,” he pointed out.
“The locals are getting anxious due to this delay on the part of the KHADC at a time when several road projects are pending,” he added.
Myrthong also urged the KHADC to expedite the issuance of NOC to enable the locals to have access to better road connectivity and to usher in development in the region.
After the matter was discussed in the just concluded KHADC session, the Executive Member in-charge Land and Market Hadrian Lyngdoh had said that a committee had been constituted to examine the issuance of NOC.
