SHILLONG: UDP president Donkupar Roy has predicted that the party will come back to power in the next Assembly polls in 2018.
Addressing the meeting of party unit and zonal leaders of Mawsynram circle at Khliehshnong Community Hall, Mawsynram, the UDP president urged the party’s rank and file to be positive in their approach as the upcoming state election will witness a sea change.
“In this change lies the UDP’s return to power,” he said.
He lamented at the present scenario where the Congress-led government has been engrossed in politicking rather than governance which according to the party has cost the people of the state dearly.
While scams due to corruption cases have been the order of the day, the UDP leader asked the party men to speak out, as the party, when voted to power, will seriously work to bring corruption to end.
“UDP is in an opportune position to wrest the driving seat of governance and to achieve this, each and every member’s dedicated and committed service is called for,” Roy said.
He reminded the meeting that it has always been the endeavour of the party to bring in clean and effective governance to fulfill the aspirations of the people and added that this is the mission of the party.
Roy expressed his happiness over the turn out and his indebtedness towards party’s  Mawsynram circle leaders who despite the party’s consecutive defeats have remained loyal to UDP.
Those present in the meeting include Allantry Franklin Dkhar, State vice president, Pretty Kharpyngrope, State women’s wing president and Teinwel Dkhar, district secretary among other district and circle leaders.
Earlier, a meeting under the chairmanship of the party’s district president Titos Chyne, deliberated on the present position of the UDP and resolved to constitute an ad hoc body in preparation for the general council of the circle, scheduled to be held in the last week of August. The meeting elected Chyne as president, D. Nongseij as secretary. Convenors were also elected to the nine zonal units of the constituency.
