SC takes up NGT ban on coal mining

NONGSTOIN:  A petition has been filed in the Apex Court against the NGT ban on coal mining in Meghalaya following which a notice was served to All Dimasa Students’ Union by the Court on Thursday.
The Nongstoin Land Owners Coal Traders & Producers Association on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking relief against the NGT ban on coal mining.
The Association sought the intervention of the Apex Court especially to stay the orders of the NGT dated December 23, 2015, March 30, 2016 and May 10, 2016 to auction the already extracted coal in the State.
The secretary of the Association, Apsharai Syiem said that it filed the civil appeal making the All Dimasa Students’ Union, Dima Hasao Committee, State Government and others as respondents.
After hearing the appeal, the Court served notice to the All Dimasa Students’ Union.  The next date of hearing will be July 11.
