State Bank Day observed in WJ Hills

JOWAI: The 61st State Bank Day was celebrated here at North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Jowai, on Friday attended by Deputy Chief Minister R.C. Laloo, district police chief R. Muthu, SBI AGM B.K. Choudhury, SBI chief manager Jowai branch, T.H. Tunglut, and SBI Ladthadlaboh branch manager Brian Syiemlieh.
In his introductory speech, Choudhury informed that SBI came into existence in July 1956 and has a history of more than 200 years, beginning 1806, when the Bank of Calcutta (later named Bank of Bengal) was established.
Today, SBI is the largest bank in the country with over two   lakh branches beside offices in more than 34 countries. SBI has more than 30.12 crore customers and 59000 ATMs and has the maximum visitors to its online website after Amazon and Flipkart, he informed.
Laloo, in his speech, spoke on the issue of unemployment and urged the SBI to help such educated unemployed youths.
“Given that government jobs are very less, I want the bank to help our educated youths financially to set up small projects,” he added.
