SHILLONG: Wide cracks have developed in the MPSC building (Horseshoe building) with a large number of cracks appearing on the front portion of the building which are hard to miss.
Information available at the District Emergency Operations Centre revealed that assessment of the Horseshoe building was conducted by PWD (Buildings) after which it had stated that repair works were necessary.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar said with regard to government and private buildings, a team of experts from East Khasi Hills audited all private and government hospitals in the district and other office buildings.
The buildings that were audited include Bethany Hospital, Woodland Hospital, Main Secretariat, Additional Secretariat, Robert Hospital, Fire and Emergency Service building, NEIGRIHMS, State Central Library, Pine Mount School, Nazareth Hospital, Super Care Hospital and the SP Office in the first phase conducted in April.
With the State rocked by series of earthquakes, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in January had ordered auditing of safety standards of all the lifeline buildings in the state such as DC office, SP office, police headquarters and hospitals.
He had directed the officers concerned to call meetings with all the line departments and chalk out measures on the preparedness of the State to withstand natural calamities.
