SHILLONG: The state BJP is yet to take a decision on pre-poll alliance with likeminded political parties as the party is now concentrating on strengthening its base all over the state.
Though the Assembly election is one and half years away, the Khasi Hills-based regional parties — UDP and NPP, having significant presence in Garo Hills, have already expressed their desire to have a pre-poll understanding. However, the BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh on Wednesday said that the priority of his party is to strengthen its base in every nook and corner of the state. “In his regard, we have completed meetings in as many as 35 mandals”, Lyngdoh said. He said more regular meetings would be held in the days to come.
According to the BJP leader, the last pre-poll alliance of the party with the NPP was only for the by-poll to Tura Lok Sabha seat held in May.
Lyngdoh said that as far as the upcoming 2018 Assembly poll is concerned, it is too early to take any decision on the issue of pre-poll alliance.
