Kohima: The Hills Area Truck Owners Association (HATOA) of Assam, following to non-compliance of the September 30 deadline set by truckers to make the roads motorable, have decided to suspend operations from Jorhat and Mariani to the three districts of Mokokchung, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
Official sources said the HATOA in a letter has stated that they have decided not to ply their vehicles (trucks) from Mariani to three districts in Nagaland as their appeal for the repair of road in the said route was not undertaken.
The letter signed by the President and Secretary of HATOA stated that as the deadline for the appeal for repair of roads ended on 30th September last, the HATOA has decided that they will suspend operation of trucks plying from Jorhat and Mariani in Assam to the three districts of Nagaland from Monday next.
It is to be noted here that the said route is the life line for these three districts as almost all the essential commodities, fuel supplies and other articles are being transported daily from Assam to these three districts.
And that the said road is under the maintenance of the Border Roads Organisation.
However, this monsoon, the condition of the road deteriorated thus prompting the truckers to suspend their services.
And if at all the trucks fail to ply because of the suspension by the HATOA, the suffering of the commonmen will be immense. (UNI)
