SHILLONG: With intelligence inputs on a group of Jihadi elements allegedly sneaking into Meghalaya through South Garo Hills, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday said the State security agencies in co-ordination with other agencies are ready to tackle any threat on the border.
There were reports that at least five militants had crossed over to South Garo Hills from Bangladesh.
While police said it had positive information, a BSF official only said there were rumours about intrusion of the Bangladeshi elements into Meghalaya. “We could not corroborate the information,” said the BSF official.
When asked, the chief minister said it is not desirable to share such information to the media as militants might have an upper hand.
“But we are geared up and whenever such information is available we are alert,” the chief minister said.
