Wahumkhrah controversy
SHILLONG: KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum has come down heavily on the KHADC for misleading the public by claiming to have achieved 100 per cent success in cleaning the Wahumkhrah, stating that the truth is visible to the naked eye that the river is not clean.
Functionaries of the Jaiaw Dorbar also expressed surprise at the KHADC claims that Jaiaw constituency did not accept the money meant to clean the Wahumkhrah, which was revealed in an RTI.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Hoji Suting, general secretary Dorbar Shnong Jaiaw Laitdom said the Dorbar was looking forward to its role in cleaning the river but added that they never got any intimation from the KHADC in this regard.
“Till date we have not received any letter from the KHADC regarding any scheme to clean the river. The Council should clarify when Jaiaw Dorbar rejected the scheme,” he demanded.
Suting stated that it was clear that the KHADC was misleading the public. “We wish to clarify that we yearn to have the river cleaned. We urge the KHADC to take the matter seriously and not to waste people’s hard earned money.”
Speaking on the claims of the KHADC that the river is 100 per cent clean, Suting said the claims were blatant lies as not even a small portion of the river had been cleaned.
