MeECL linemen become barefoot workers

SHILLONG: For the last three months, the linemen of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Colony, Mawlai Nongkwar under Area Manager-II have to walk on foot to attend to complaints of consumers about power failures in their areas thanks to the failure of MeECL.
According to sources, the vehicles hired for linemen of MeECL Colony, Mawlai Nongkwar were not available now for more than three weeks because the owners of the vehicles have refused to rent them out reportedly for the failure of the company to pay the rent.
Vehicles (Maruti vans) were requisitioned by the MeECL for the linemen of MeECL Colony, Mawlai Nongkwar as they have to visit various places to check the malfunctioning of transformers at different stations on complaints.
“In the absence of vehicles, the linemen have no other option but to walk on foot, to attend to the consumers’ complaints about interrupted power supply in the area to rectify the problem”, sources added. The linemen of MeECL Colony, Mawlai Nongkwar have to perform their duties in areas which comprise of the whole of Mawlai Pyllun, Mawiong, Jaiaw Pyllun, Mawkhar, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Umsohsun, and part of Mawlai Mawroh.
