Guwahati: Two forest guards have been put under suspension even as Assam forest department has ordered an inquiry into a firing incident in Kaziranga National Park area in which a seven-year-old boy was injured by a stray bullet that came out of the service rife of a forest guard posted at Solmara forest camp in Mihimukh area of the Park.
Senior forest officer M Timung has been entrusted by the department to inquire into the incident even as two forest guards posted in Solmara camp, Manas Bora and Anil Deka were put under suspension with immediate effect.
The injured child, Akash Orang was walking along the arterial National Highway that snakes through the southern fringe of the Park in the evening of Sunday when a stray bullet grazed past his two legs. He was later admitted to Jorhat Medical College and Civil Hospital under the responsibility of the forest department.
A source in the park informed that the bullet fired from the service rifle allotted to forest guard Anil Deka, but it was being held by his colleague Manas Bora at the time of firing.
Manas Bora was posted the national park deputation during the flood period. Manas Bora was rescued by police from among enraged villagers following Sunday evening’s incident.
