Over 3000 students awaiting admission in Class XI

SHILLONG: The state government will be able to ensure the admission of over 3,000 students who cleared class X examination, to sit in class rooms to pursue studies in Class XI in the government-run educational institutions by August.
Several students have applied for admissions for Class XI in various government higher secondary institutions in the state for Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
However, in the absence of required seats, they were left out, but the Education Department has initiated measures to address the concerns of students by taking steps to provide additional class rooms.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education RC Laloo told reporters on Tuesday that interviews for the assistant lecturers and laboratory assistants were going on and the admission seekers will be accommodated in class rooms in August.
Earlier, a high level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma along with Deputy Chief Minister, in charge Education, was held to discuss the issue.
During the meeting, the state government had decided to earmark additional allocation of Rs. 3.5 crore besides appointing 102 assistant lecturers and 11 laboratory assistants soon on contractual basis to bridge the gap at the +2 level.
