Mawphu project
SHILLONG: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) is likely to start the pre-construction activities of  the 85 mw Mawphu  hydro power project by January next provided the PSU gets all the necessary clearances and assistance from the State and the Central governments.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Wednesday, NEEPCO Director (technical) V K Singh said that the actual work for the project is likely to begin in last  part of 2017.
NEEPCO is awaiting certain clearances from the State Government for taking up the project.
According to Singh, the detailed project report would be submitted shortly. “Certain clearances would be required from the Central Electric Authority to start work,” he said.
The Mawphu project will be the first projected to be implemented by  NEEPCO in Meghalaya.
He also said that two percent of the total energy cost, which would come to around Rs 2.5 crore every year, will be utilized for the benefit of those families affected by the project.
In addition, local people will be given preference for jobs besides  100-unit free electricity would be provided to the affected families for the next ten years, he said.
The estimated budget of the project is around Rs 800Â crore.
