SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has stated that the BSF personnel has not allowed any Bangladeshi to enter the Indian land as last year the troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier have apprehended 12 militants/over ground workers of various outfits, 35 Indian smugglers,76 Bangladeshi.
Reacting to the news item on the rising border crimes which questioned the role of BSF, they said that Bangladesh Police and Border Guard Bangladesh have launched a number of operations along the border on the information shared by the BSF.
Highlighting their achievements, the BSF PRO stated that 1312 numbers of cattle, wooden logs/sleepers worth Rs 1.85 crores and other contraband items worth Rs 61.55 crores and 1119 numbers of cattle, 3160.37 Cft wooden logs/sleepers and other contraband items worth over Rs 3.35 crores were seized in 2015-16 respectively.
They stated, “It appears that a few unfortunate instances have been blown out of proportion by the elements whose ill designs have been foiled by the BSF.”
It may be reminded that frequent crimes perpetrated by criminals from neighbouring    Bangladesh who cross into Garo Hills unchallenged has compelled the Garo Students’ Union to question the ‘vigil’ by the Border Security Force personnel.
