SHILLONG: The BSF in its anti-smuggling drive on the International Border, seized 28 cattle at BOP Tuka, Lyngkhat and Pyrdiwah, West Jaintia Hills on Saturday and exposed the widening network of cattle smugglers.
The BSF has been continuously effecting seizures in the area of Lyngkhat.
With the recent slump in the smuggling and resultant demand-supply gap, the beef price has skyrocketed in Bangladesh, making trafficking riskier but much lucrative, a statement issued by BSF said.
The BSF is increasingly being attacked by the persons involved in this activity. The cow-traffickers have also developed a well-oiled counter-intelligence network, the statement added.
“There are ‘linemen’ whose task is to keep tabs on BSF movement. Then there are ‘transporters’ who ensure the cattle go across the border, and there are ‘stoners’ who rain stones on BSF troops to scatter’, the BSF said
All the seized cattle were handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
