Landslide-hit road to be cleared today

SHILLONG:  The Mawsynram-Lawbah road in East Khasi Hills, which has remained blocked following a major landslide triggered by heavy downpour, is likely to be restored fully by Tuesday.
Informing this here on Monday, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said that several heavy machineries including JCBs brought from Guwahati were pressed into service to clear the road. The road was partially restored on Sunday  and light vehicles were allowed to ply.
According to him, PWD personnel have  taken a cautious approach since there is a fear that another landslide in the area.
It may be recalled that as many as 17 villages have remained cut off from the capital city since Monday last after a major landslide carrying along with it mostly boulders blocked the entire stretch.
