SHILLONG: LPG consumers in Jail Road locality of the city have expressed their resentment against a new system of getting their LPG cards stamped by the Jail Road Welfare Committee.
When contacted, the chairman of the Jail Road Welfare Committee said that the decision to put a stamp on the cards of LPG consumers was taken considering the fact that many people who had moved out of the locality continued to collect LPG cylinders from the locality leading to a scarcity.
The chairman added that Sunny Gas Agency had also sent a letter to the committee asking them to put stamps on the cards to identify the genuine LPG consumers in the locality. The Sunny Gas Agency, however, dismissed the claim stating that it was the internal arrangement of the committee to identify the “genuine LPG consumers” of the locality.
When contacted, DC (Supply) PS Dkhar said that there was no law authorizing any welfare committee or local body to put stamps on the LPG cards of consumers.
“If anyone approaches me, I will direct the committee to do away with any such system,” he asserted.
